I've been going non stop since 1993. I don't think I could ever stop completely. Sure, I don't go to as many raves as I used to (mostly due to the fact I live in a part of the country with no raves) and I sure don't take drugs like I used to, but sometimes I just feel the need to dance all night and be there with my friends and dance to that infinite rhythm..
I'm still there.. Who else is..??

Re: Who here still raves??
Sat, February 24, 2007 - 1:25 PMI'm still raving (since '92). Not nearly as much as before and in a different capacity. The scene has indeed changed so much. So I do my best to keep the spirit of the rave alive by working more "behind the scenes" than out on it. Years of abusing my body has taken it's toll. I no longer am able to dance all night without worry. But my spirit stays strong. I use my talents to bring that joy to others.

Re: Who here still raves??
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 12:34 PMI would go to more if I could, its hard to find a fun vibe these days without being witness to crackhead city. I'm going to Karma at the end of June up in the sunshine coast. I thought of going to Shambala, but I really dont like parties with more than a couple thousand people. too much of a scene, not enough of a vibe. But who knows, I'm into trance, house and breaks, a combination that is not always easy to find these days. I dont like listening to the same beat all night, this is problem here in B.C. as most parties here seem to cater to just one form of music without mixing it up. That sucks and is borng to me. But do I still rave? You know it! my living room is my favorite dance floor these days.... -

Re: Who here still raves??
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 1:39 PMYour setiments seem to really sum it up for alot of us old skoolers. The tide of quality vs quantity has shifted as younger ravers become obsessed with getting more for thier buck. Not realizing that the value isn't in the number of dj's playing, the number of speakers pumping, or the number of people roaming around like zombies not knowing what's going on where. The value is the company you keep, the people hosting the party, and the feeling of truly knowing that you're in the right place at the right moment in time.
All of which sadly enough, one can get with a bottle of wine, a good friend who's willing to dj all night, some cool videos, and you're living room. -

Re: Who here still raves??
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 11:06 AMI do pot cookies, a coffee and dance my butt off in my living room, back yard or friends place, where ever the beats may be played. I usually will create a tape to dance to for myself, or spin live for friends. I do wish there was at least one really good trancy house style party once a month here in Southern B.C., but its all goa heads, psy frys and break nuts around here (which aint all bad in SMALL doses or MIXED up, but for SOUL I gotta have house, some form of it anyway. It is the soul of soul in dance music. Lack of black people here in B.C. is also probably why it is not popular with the white bread. too bad, they are truly missing out on some good happy and positive beats (M.A.W. anyone?). It is also probably because only really cheesey house is played here on the west coast of Canada as well.

Re: Who here still raves??
Thu, April 19, 2007 - 7:32 AMI read through your post and tears join my eyes, I am an old school raver, as they say, been in the scene for the past eleven years now.... these new school kids have been brought up with no respect for you, me, or anything or anyone else around them, no love for the land the light or the mother (so sad) ... I have come to the piont where i now see "LA ravers" as just another junkie... these kids know no limits, taking it to a piont that even scares me at times.... I am a rave promoter at this time (although trying to move away from the title). Raves have gotten to a piont that is just not fun anymore, the crowed runs for the shoadows when the sun comes up so that they don't have to look at themselfs I've seen it, time and time agian... i love this scene and i hate to watch it hurt it self but how do you stop a junkie? -

Re: Who here still raves??
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 10:38 AMWho here FAUX raves?
I've done it. After I fell in love with a drop out and squatted in some adverse conditions, I relished faking it at raves because they simply aren't what they used to be. Winnipeg's scene was like the Gate Crasher scene allustrated in The Big Book of E. Lots of Elmo and overalls made by companies that aren't around anymore.
The scene isn't about fakes, it's about nonviolence, particularily being non violent to yourself and looking good >not like a junkie...Ecstasy: fake it till you make it!

Tue, May 8, 2007 - 4:57 PMYea, Yea, I've been Raving since '92. With a few years gap in the late 90's. I don't drug any more either. I would love to go to Ibiza this summer, ooo I love that minimal and electro sound, fuck Techno has even been revampt. I get all my music from beatport.com, fuck prog. house even still kicks ass. I am telling ya, I think '06 was a great renasaunce for techno, every johnra besides psytrance and Jungle got revampt, so the Europian Festivals this summer are gonna kick ass! Ok, Detriot and Miami will always kick ass, the Detriot festival is happening right now! Techno forever! -

Re: Who here still raves??
Thu, June 7, 2007 - 3:39 AMYeah.. Im ol' school too. Started in late '91 in San Francisco... enjoyed Rave called Sharon, the Gathering...and who knows how many others. Loved the Wicked crew.. still do. I threw a few raves in SF from '94 to '96.. pretty big.. but nothing like those crazy weekends in '92. I do miss what we had then.. things have certainly changed for me, but I still have good music and good friends in my life.. I DJ often at a local club, but santa cruz just isnt SF. Im going to see Louie Vega this sunday at The EndUp.. cant wait! I saw Frankie Knuckles play a couple weeks ago at the EndUp.. reminded me of the good 'ol days... only we were all a bit older.
If any of you are ever in the Santa Cruz., CA area drop me a line..
I also have a new house mix that has some good new music, but also has some DOPE OLD CLASSICS! Oh yeah! A couple rave anthems.. lots of club hits. Check em out! The link is on my myspace page: myspace.com/djdas2006
Oh.. and I just tracked down another old rave favorite from the early 90's... Jeno used to play it all the time. Triple M 'Prisoner of Passion'.. I cant wait to play it for some of the ol' school headz that show up for Groove here in santa cruz.
PLUR and all that...

Re: Who here still raves??
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 9:00 AMYes, I still have the vibe in me. I don't go to as many parties as I wish I could but I do support the scene in San Francisco - since 92. I did go to the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa. Going to try and make it to a Gathering party coming up. Digging on the "dub-step" sound.
Rave on!

Re: Who here still raves??
Fri, July 27, 2007 - 10:21 AMIn India we called trance parties "RAVES" and they were strongly connected to the earth and to pure liberation through sound... When I moved back to NY in 2004 after almost a decade in Asia I was really puzzled by the rave scene here, or what was left of it - it had changed so much since my early party days.....
But once you are part of this lifestyle, how can you ever really leave it??!!
We throw psytrance parties throughout the world as 6362MetaForce - in NYC (indoor) and India (outdoor) , and hopefully in Venezuela (outdoor) before the end of this year. Most definitely we will keep doing so for years to come!
I'm 35 now but in our parties, we have 18 year olds partying with 50 year olds, and I hope we'll continue to promote that spirit for generations to come! That's what it's all about. Raves & rave culture (alongside my beloved trance culture) are under attack worldwide, but this beautiful spirit and the alternative universe we all create in our parties - whether in Oregon, New York, Canada, or beyond North America - is definitely worth preserving.
.... And who can show the younger generations how to party if we don't ??! ;-)) -

Re: Who here still raves??
Tue, November 13, 2007 - 6:20 PMfirst rave in '94. Started djing in '95.
I dropped out of the Kandy scene when I noticed everyone was mostly raving to take drugs and the attendees were 16 - 25, so i felt a lil out of place . Plus, i didn't like prog trance which pretty much dominated in the late 90's.. Imma house -techno nut.
So, started going to Burning Man.
Now burning man is getting so cliquey. I wanna start going back to raves and getting more rave type gigs.
Winterfresh in coming in Dec!! (L.A.)

Re: Who here still raves??
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 2:07 AMbeen doing it since 91 and my heart is still in it. do it still go? well that is up to what you define as a "rave". when i started, the word "rave" wasn't popular. back then they were called "undergrounds" or just plain "parties" so in those terms, yes i still go. do i attend what one defines as a "rave" with glow sticks plastic beads and those GOD DAMN PACIFIERS!!!! then no, i don't go to them anymore. in fact, those three reasons (and there are more i can't think of, but there are many) i mentioned were reasons my friends and i got out of the scene. the scene became what you see as a joke on TV. what ppl that have never been to a "rave" make fun of. do i blame them? hell no! i'm making fun of the scene with them. the uniform that includes beads and glowsticks is so fucking ridiculous, that an old school head like myself would shun the scene. i don't want to, but i can't help it. and i don't stand alone in this either. all my peeps that were there back in the day HATE what the "kandy Kids" made it, and whats that you might ask? A FUCKING JOKE!!! yes, you look/looked like a fucking idiot wearing that outfit. however, as i said in the opening of this conversation, my heart is still in it. i know i will die with it in my heart. i owe my closet friends that i still have today to the scene. i had the best years of my life during those crazy and blurry years. god bless all of you that started way back when and are still doing it. keep the scene alive, but for god sacks, take that fucking pacifier out of your mouth!!!!!!!!! because ppl are making fun of you for a good reason... you look like a fucking FOOL!!!!!!!!! -

Re: Who here still raves??
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 5:05 PMi go to parties. and undergrounds. with electronic music. i'd say amen brother to you marcos except that i don't think its necessary to call people fools. on the other hand i do think that since the beginning of the idea of the TAZ, acid house party, rave, whatever you want to call it, that people who are in it without having their heart and soul in the music and dancing and who are just there to get fucked up are giving the rest of us a bad rap. however this may be a blessing in disguise. the joke's' now on all of us, which i think helps to keep the underground, underground. -

Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:32 PMI began raving in 1999, and went strong until about 2001, then I moved to Portland, kinda dropped out of the scene, for various reasons, and now am looking to jump back in and reconnect with old faces, and make new friends! :D I don't really know anyone in Portland, but would love to meet peepz and make friends here. :) Just hit me up! :D
